Fear mounted for the family of Colchester, Connecticut residents Tony and Megan Todt when they went dark and stopped responding to inquiries from friends and family on Monday, Jan. 6, while they were supposed to be on a vacation in Florida.
Four bodies were reportedly found in the home the Todts were leasing in Celebration, Florida after the family reportedly received an eviction from their home. It remains unclear how the four died, pending their autopsies.
The family of five includes three young children.
The Osceola Sheriff’s Office has released few details, but said deputies are currently conducting a death investigation in the North Village area at Celebration.
In response to the missing family members, a private Facebook page was set up with the title “Looking for the Todt Family” when they were unresponsive last week.
When a man was taken in handcuffs from the family’s home at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 13, a woman on the page wrote “I am so sorry to report that 4 bodies have been found (not identified) in celebration, Florida today. Tony is at the hospital. We have no further details and we will update you when we know more. Please pray for the family.”
The names of the four victims have not been released by investigators, though a suspect is in custody. No charges have been filed. They are expected to be released publicly once the Medical Examiner’s Office completes autopsies and next-of-kin were notified.
"The news reports out of Celebration, Florida regarding a Colchester family are shocking and heartbreaking,” Colchester First Selectman Mary Bylone posted on social media. “While there is much we do not know at this time, I know that the thoughts and prayers of our entire community are with the relatives and friends of the family involved.
“We can't always make sense of moments like this but we can support each other. Colchester proves every day the power of community and the importance of being kind. I know we will stand together as we help each other to work through this moment.”
In a statement, Connecticut State Police said that law enforcement agencies in Florida are leading the investigation.
“To date, the Connecticut State Police has not received any request from local authorities in the Florida area to assist in this investigation. We are confident in their ability to conduct a thorough investigation. We ask that the public exercise patience while the Osceola County Sheriff's Department releases information as these types of investigation tend to be complex."
